how we work

INTRODUCTION
We’re PERSNICKETY: fussy, fastidious, particular, meticulous, choosy and on occasion nitpicking. We hope to attract customers with the same leanings. Here’s why:

At Persnickety Painters, quality preparation and the skilled application of premium materials ensure our client’s homes, whether inside or out, look their best, and are thoroughly protected.

A home or building looks better with a fresh coat of paint, no matter who paints it. But if not well done, the shortcuts soon become evident, the little mistakes stand out, and sometimes even big ones appear. Not a persnickety job.

We work as if we were painting our own home. The Persnickety crew has trained and painted together for more than eight years. We fix, fill, caulk and sand everything that could possibly need attention. You can see immediately that the painting is done to the highest standards. That’s a Persnickety job.

The realization that we paint to a higher standard becomes even clearer over time. Just how much care we take in making the home look its best is fully appreciated as every detail of the job is noticed in different light and weather. This is where the value of our work lies.

ESTIMATES & BIDS
Give us a call and tell us what you need. We’ll schedule to meet with you to walk-through the site and outline the parameters of the job, and measure and photograph the site for bidding reference. This meeting usually takes an hour or less.

Within a week you’ll receive a bid. Once the terms are accepted, a start date and a payment schedule are set.

Value vs. Price
We bid for the time we believe it will take to get the job done right.
Price is a very important consideration, but as Persnickety Painters, we rarely, if ever, win jobs by being the lowest bidder. Many contractors bid low and then make their profit from every minor change order. Instead, we try our best to represent the true cost up front and therefore believe we represent honest value for the quality of work that we offer. Of course, adding a room or changing a color after the work is done will require a change order, but that wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

CONTAINMENT, PREPARATION AND THE PAINTING PROCESS
We understand that having your house painted can be an imposition. As Persnickety Painters, we’re sympathetic to the inherent nuisance of having contractors in your home, and we work closely with you to try and limit the intrusion.

The secret is in careful containment. The really messy portion of the process is the prep and sanding. During these times we seal areas or items off with plastic and tape, leaving them unaffected by the mess around them.

We do general cleaning on a daily basis, and when we have completed the job, we always leave the home at least as clean as we found it.

The actual painting process is different for every client. While estimating the job, we design specifications for how each job will be approached and what materials and techniques will be used. These are laid out and explained in your proposal.
